A driver will pick you up the next day so you can spend time in nature finding out what the Black Forest is all about. You get to pick and choose your own Black Forest driving tour itinerary. Some people have a checklist of all the must-see sights like cuckoo clock town Triberg and Lake Titisee. While others prefer a leisurely drive through the mountains to some rather hidden sights. We present you with all the options – you get to pick what to see and what to do.

Once you decide that Freiburg is a part of your Black Forest vacation we offer several itineraries starting off from Freiburg. You can either stay in the Southern Black Forest touring all the main attractions (Example Lake Titisee). Or we add-on the Central Black Forest area where the clock area is located at. Itinerary

This is our standard itinerary if you are interested in seeing both Freiburg and a mountain town. You are staying in the Southern Black Forest where you have attractions like Lake Titisee, a mountain coaster, a tree top walk. Included with this package is a driving tour to get you from Freiburg to the mountain town. The itinerary on the driving tour is flexible – we try and customize the tour for you which means you get to pick the stops of the tour (we provide you with a list of possible stops).

Tour Outline:

Arrival in Freiburg

Arrive by train in Freiburg, the capital of the Black Forest. Your hotel is ready for check-in mid-afternoon. But you can certainly arrive anytime before that, drop off your luggage, and start exploring!

If you are arriving early we recommend that you head into town (a short 10 minute walk) for a quick orientation.

Accommodation (2 nights)

  • standard hotel
  • upgraded hotel with A/C

We work with several smaller family-owned hotels in Freiburg. They are either located close the train station. Or we can provide a pick-up by car to get you to your hotel in the old town. 

Day 1: All Day in Freiburg

Morning. After breakfast our guide will meet you at your hotel to take you on a 90 minute walking tour of Freiburg. Afterwards you have all day to explore Freiburg on your own. 

After lunch you have several options. We equip you with all the information you need to tour on your own: 

Some people like to stay in Freiburg and enjoy an afternoon in the beer garden. Plenty of options! Or head to the nearby mountain by public transportation. Then take the cable car up to a viewing platform. Enjoy coffee & cake at a cafe or go for a walk up to the sightseeing tower.

Day 2: tour by car, transfer to next hotel

After breakfast our driver will pick you up. Enjoy a half day driving tour of the Southern Black Forest – ending at your next hotel in a small Black Forest Town up in the mountains, close to Lake Titisee. We provide you with several itineraries to choose from – see the touristy sights, or stay off-the beaten path –  its your choice.

Prefer a hike instead of touring by car? If you prefer to go on a hike with one of our guides instead, our driver will transfer you to the mountains where you meet with our hiking guide (no worries – your luggage comes along). Experience the Black Forest on a beautiful 8 km hike passing by waterfalls.

In the afternoon we invite you to a complimentary piece of cake and coffee. If you have not tried Black Forest cake yet, this is the time to do it.

Accommodation:

We work with a cozy family-owned hotel in the middle of a small mountain town. This hotel does not have A/C

Departure Day

After breakfast it’s time to say good-bye. Your hotel is located close to the train station. We recommend to store your luggage at the hotel and enjoy the town or area a bit longer. Then pick up your luggage later and take the train back to Freiburg.

I am only interested staying in Freiburg for 1 night, I want to spend more time in the mountains. Is this possible?

Absolutely! If you prefer, we can also place you in Freiburg for 1 night only, and for 2 nights in the mountains. In that case we schedule our Freiburg walking tour in the afternoon of your arrival day. Or the next morning after breakfast.

The next day after lunch we transfer you to your hotel in the mountains on a driving tour. The following day you tour on your own – we provide you with all info. 

 

This is our standard itinerary if you are interested in seeing both Freiburg and a medieval Black Forest town.  Included with this package is a 6 hour driving tour to get you from Freiburg to the medieval Black Forest town. On your driving tour you will be crossing through the Central Black Forest where you have attractions like Triberg clock area, castle ruins, the open-air farmhouse museum, several old medieval towns. The itinerary on this driving tour is flexible – we try and customize the tour for you which means you get to pick the stops of the tour (we provide you with a list of possible stops).

Please note – we might reverse the itinerary depending on availability of hotels – in that case you will start in the Black Forest town and end in Freiburg. Another option is to spend 2 nights in the Black Forest town and only one in Freiburg. It really is up to you. Talk to us and we will figure out the best possible itinerary for you.

Enjoy a 5-6 hour driving tour of the Black Forest – ending at your next hotel in a small medieval Black Forest Town. We provide you with several itineraries to choose from – see the touristy sights, or stay off-the beaten path, its your choice. On your driving tour we will cross through the Triberg clock area. Great photo op at Worlds Largest Cuckoo Clock!

Accommodation (1 night):

You are staying in a beautiful medieval town in the Central Black Forest. 

We equip you with all the information you need to explore this beautiful town on your own.

We work with 2 small hotel, all located in the heart of the old town.

  • Standard hotel in the centre of a medieval town, no A/C
  • Standard business-style hotel with A/C outside of town centre (10 minute walk)

Day 2: on your own

Today you will be on your own – we provide you with all the options on what to see and what to do. Relax in town, go for a walk, enjoy a swim at lake Titisee. Or hire one of our guides and/or drivers to spend a few hours with you!

In the afternoon we invite you to a complimentary piece of cake and coffee. If you have not tried Black Forest cake yet, this is the time to do it.

Day 3: transfer to Staufen

After breakfast our driver will pick you up around lunch time to transfer you to Staufen. Enjoy the scenic driving tour crossing over 2 mountains. 

You have all afternoon to explore Staufen on your own (we provide all info). Climb up to the castle or enjoy the best cake in the world! We also treat you to a local wine and one of the must-taste local specialties. You will love it!

Accommodation:

we work with a small hotel in the heart of Staufen (no A/C). From here you can easily explore town.

Departure Day

After breakfast our driver will meet you at your hotel. You will then be taken to Freiburg train station.

  • Double Rooms. If you are booking a double room there is one double bed with 2 individual mattresses (not 2 twin beds). If you require separate beds we recommend booking 2 separate rooms. In rare cases twin beds are available, please inquire.
  • Single Rooms. If you are traveling by yourself we charge a single room supplement. You will either be provided with a single room. Or with a double room for single use – based on availability.
  • Bathrooms. All rooms have private en-suite bathrooms.
  • Air-Conditioning. Summers can be very warm. Most hotels in Germany do not have air-conditioning. Sometimes hotels can provide a fan for your room. Our standard hotels in this package do not have A/C. But for an upgrade fee we can offer hotels with A/C
  • Mobile Phone Coverage. Please note that the Black Forest is a mountainous area. Often there is no mobile phone coverage when touring the Black Forest. 
  • Wi-Fi in hotels. All of our hotels have wi-fi but sometimes it can be spotty in your room – depending on the location of your room.
  • If you require constant online access we do NOT recommend touring the Black Forest.
